The Crucifix as an Art Piece
The crucifix, which literally means ‘fixed to a cross’ is a three dimensional image of Jesus fixed to a cross. The crucifix is an important religious icon among Catholics. Most practicing Catholics will have one in their homes. Others like to have a crucifix close to their body. So, they either wear it around their neck or carry it around in their bag.
The bigger crucifixes are works of art. They are made of various materials including wood, metal or stone. A polyresin crucifix is also popular. While keeping true to its form, artists manage to come out with beautiful artistic rendition of the crucifix. They range from the simple to elaborate hand crafted pieces.
